Week 46 English classroom

We have started this week with fun repetition of opposites to make sure there are staying strongly in our heads and that all the  students understood the concept. All children had a chance to speak up out loud and show their skills, after they participate in a short test and I used a worksheet for the task. We have learned 28 opposites and I am very proud of second graders for the effort in learning process! Great job!

This week we have learn the role of a  “verb” in a sentence and how to recognize it. Fun crosswords, games with verbs like”Simon says...” make this process easy and enjoyable for students and to prove their positive influence I did a little follow up by the end of the week and I was very pleased with the results. As a beginners in English grammar world second graders are on the right path to master verbs and move on to another important concept in English grammar.

Referring to our new and extremely interesting  topic we have wrote in English  about travelling in space “ Imagine that you could travel around solar system. Write about your adventures and who did you meet there.” Exciting topic to write about, and their imagination went wild into far away orbit :)

We also conducted experiments with the light in the main role. After watching movie about light, we learned sources of light, we discussed as a group why light is so important for Earth and why do we have night and day. By using torch and globes children in small groups receive a task of finding different cities and countries on the globe and finding out where in opposite is night. Second graders enjoyed this activity very much and they have performed well not only on science level but also as a team players. Great group work everybody!

Second experiment was based on types of light and new vocabulary, transparent, translucent, shadow. Firstly students had to predict (new vocabulary word) if by using torch they can see through different type of materials like plastic boxes, paper, fabric, and later perform testing experiment. So much fun and learning! They could as well tested how well they can see in a dark environment and if by using a familiar source of light - torch, they see better in darkness. They documented all the results.

During math classes we have mastered our knowledge about shapes and geometric figures and we have practice our skills with the help of math books and different worksheets.

Reach stars, their favorite song was our inspiration for art classes this week. We have created a “Reach Stars” wall in English classroom with stars, planets, astronauts and their favorite spaceship (rockets). Children were very focus on the task and enjoy every minute while listen to story about universe.

We have continuously reminded second graders about cooperation and working together this week. It was lovely to see them helping each other and taking this responsibility on themselves. Good job second graders! Another great week!

Please don’t forget about homework! Practicing makes masters so let’s practice together!

Homework

  1. Discuss with your family what cooperation means and why is it important to be cooperative. Write it down in English :)
  2. circle the verbs in the sentences.

Have a great weekend!
